Overall the garland was nice/full, but contained pieces/elements that were very cheesy-looking plastic, and really took away from the overall appearance. Also, the lights will go out if you screw the battery box shut (which you are supposed to do), so there is definitely manufacture issues. I will use them again in the future, but would have returned them if I had paid full price.

my mantle is 7-8" wide, this says 14" wide. Sounds soo wide, wondering if it will work
Is the garland really 14" across, as this sounds so wide
Yes, it can be, but you can definitely position the limbs in a manner to fit your mantle by having them all pushed to the front, which will also give you a fuller look. We placed ours in a 15' window sill, and works just fine.
